You Make Me Smile

Mary Coleman, one of my fabulous design team members rose to the challenge when presented with our latest round of stamps. We just had to share this beautiful card with everyone.

1. She first started with light blue card stock, folded in half, it measures to 4 by 5.5″.

2. She then stamped the Flower & Grid stamp into rows with brown ink.

3. Next, she stamped “you make me smile” onto a scrap of the same color blue card stock wih brown ink. She added a distressed look to the rim of the circle by edging with brown ink.

4. She then added a piece of brown and blue polka dotted ribbon to card face as shown. She layered up the circle shape onto the ribbon with a pop dot to give dimension to the card.

This is an excellent way to create your own patterned background for any card or project. Nicely done Mary C.!

I Just Can’t Help Myself…

Between doing shows, working on wholesale orders, and designing new illustrations. I really don’t have much time to work on artwork. So I was thrilled to be able to come up with some cards when I booked a time to teach at Cat’s Craft Cupboard coming up this May in Escondido CA. I cleared off some space in my design studio/office/warehouse and thought about what I could come up with to teach. I started going through my stash of stamps, my main stash of stamps anyway, seems I am always misplacing them. The stamps get shoved between piles, only to be found months later. :O) -So anyway, as I was going through my pile of stamps, The Girl With the Pearl Earring - jumped out at me, as she often catches my eye. I just love to stamp with her. I have used her in greeting cards, and paintings and I am sure that I will find other ways to stamp her out. Maybe one day I will shrink her and turn her into a pendant or some fun piece of jewelry. She is just so stunning when stamped and painted. You can add a little bit of color or a lot of color to her, and she always turns out really beautiful.

Lately, soft colors and the vintage feel has been my thing, and Pink, Pink, Pink seems to be my favorite color. So I pulled out my pinks and browns - in paints - inks - card stocks & even flowers. I also pulled out one of my favorite background stamps, and flourish stamp.

Here is the card that I came up with. Hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

And I am posting another card featuring the same stamp by one of my design team members Jean Sunderman. What an amazing job she did with this card. Go Jean!

Another Beautiful Sample

marygeishatin.jpg

A friend of mine called me up the other day, we we were talking. She asked if I had gone to the mail box yet. Well, I hadn’t. Sometimes I like to procrastinate when it come to getting the mail. Too much stuff usually overfloweth and often not fun stuff. :O) But this time, when I opened the door to go and get the mail, I did not even have to go that far. There was a package sitting right at my front door step. I opened up and was delighted at what I saw. One of the prettiest samples of the Geisha. There is something so soft and feminie about this piece. The vellum overlay with the image stamped and colored right on top really adds dimension to the piece. She even made the tiny gold tassle by hand. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. Go Mary!
